The biggest challenge was to refurbish the dining rooms to give them warmth and elegance without detracting from the simplicity of the space, where the food and wine served should be the focus of the customer’s attention. The different areas into which they are divided presented, on the one hand, acoustic problems that needed to be resolved in order to improve the experience, and on the other, the configuration of the space, which, as a result of various interventions throughout the life of the premises, responded to decisions made more out of daily necessity than in pursuit of a distinctive and recognisable image.
To achieve the desired interior space concept, we worked with fine materials such as pine wood, applying a medium-toned tobacco-coloured water-based varnish that gives the space warmth and elegance without detracting from its modernity. The wood covers the walls of the living rooms, unifying the lintels of all the openings that lead to the main living room as well as those that connect to the more private second living room, thus establishing a formal organisation that balances the image of the space with a continuous line of lintels along the wall. The same wood is used on the ceilings, in this case in the form of separate slats over which we have placed a black acoustic veil to improve the acoustics of the rooms. A more unique solution was used for the rest of the vertical walls, seeking to give the premises elegance and sobriety through the use of plain, heavy curtains in a light beige tone, which also help to improve the acoustics of the premises.
Another important point to consider is the lighting in the dining rooms. Each table has an individual lamp hanging from the ceiling, which helps us focus attention on the menu that diners are enjoying. This lighting is reinforced with ambient lighting from a perimeter cove in the false ceilings of the dining rooms, which adds warmth to the space.
In summary, the renovation creates a space that combines sobriety, elegance and warmth in a manner consistent with the atmosphere sought for the restaurant, generating an appropriate combination of space, service and menu, which diners can enjoy in a relaxed and comfortable setting.
