Casa Festero, Almansa

The building located in a prime location of the historic city , at the foot of the castle and directly related to the City Council and the Church of the Assumption, is to maximize the opportunities that are provided . The proposal, which outwardly is embodied in a loud and clear volume , about completing the frame houses surrounding the castle , but not clog the sun , leaving free spaces and building dialogue with the party wall , aspiring to be an exempt building, more representative than a building between party given its public character . The geometry adopted for volume allows us to free up space along the wall of the stairs up to the castle , thus creating a “small square”, prior to which the building space turns and turns his access , oblivious to the crush that generated in the side street.

Inside the building is so sculptural . The volume is pierced by courtyards and high ceilings that let in light , creating inspiring spaces that not only seek to fulfill a function, but to create a continuous volume space where light and form a whole . The building works in section from the inside out, this creates a tight outer volume but internally generates a series of visual through the courtyards and double heights so that they come into the building to enter both the castle and the tower baroque Church of the Assumption. The game of the diagonal section through the volume in three different heights plants related to each other as well as abroad.

The proposed program is solved in three levels. The dimension of access is used as entrance hall and exhibition hall and conference . The ground floor houses the Municipal Historical Archive and Herminio Almendros Foundation. The top floor is for Festeros Association . This distribution of the program allows us to have two completely open floors , the bottom and the access that could potentially be used as a single exhibit space. The lighting in the lower level is guaranteed by continuous ripping at ground level and an English courtyard at the back of the building to which the reading of Herminio Almendros Foundation turns .

Fundamental is the treatment of the roof of the building , who works as a facade , since the view is from the castle. Rather than ignore the problem using the resource of the sloping tile roof, one chooses to work following along the roof plane as a flat façade .The materialization of the volume, clad with a continuous treatment of stucco, the building will provide an intangible and abstract nature.
